Have you taken a good, hard look into your closet lately? You may not realize it but inside lies the key to an easy-to-put-together charity project. Whether you decide to work alone or get a group together, this is a community service project that can benefit those that participate and those who will receive the items that you give. It will also free up some extra room in your closet.

If you are working alone, start in your own closet. If your friends are going to participate as well you may want to make a day of it. Going from home to home to help the other person decide what they should keep and what they should add to the donation pile. As you work through the closets look for items that don’t fit, you don’t wear anymore or things that you may have multiples of. Once finished you may have a stack of workout clothes, a pile of Apple Bottoms clothing, or a nice mix of the two.

Make sure that everything is clean and folded neatly when you go to take it in. Search your local community for donation centers or homeless shelters that would benefit from what you plan to give. While this type of community service won’t cost a penny and won’t take much time, the results can be lasting. If what you plan is successful consider trying to make this a seasonal endeavor. When you get ready to prepare for winter, try on all of your sweaters and warm clothing. Whatever doesn’t fit can go to a place where it will be used.
